Where did the idea of More Than A Dream come from?
Let’s just say Mrs. Goodwin initially jumped over into the arena of play writing and directing solely for fun! What started as simply an attempt to creatively portray the story of Pee Wee Piano for its 10th anniversary celebration, soon turned into the inspirational musical, More Than A Dream. While watching More Than A Dream, Rotoya prays that you will be “inspired to live out your dreams!” She loves to share the scripture, Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.” Throughout the musical you will hear simple and sweet melodic reminders that “God has a plan for you”.
Mrs. Rotoya Williams Goodwin was born in Rockville, MD to Pastor Glenwood Williams Jr., and the Late Regina C. Williams. Rotoya began playing the piano at the tender age of 5 and her love for music continues until this day! Mrs. Goodwin was 19 years old when she founded Pee Wee Piano, in February 2004. While a freshman at the Howard University, Rotoya’s father, approached her concerning starting a business for children. She had no idea that listening to his encouragement would give birth to what Pee Wee Piano Inc. is today. From 2004 to present day, Pee Wee Piano has faithfully served over 1,000 Prince George’s County children and their families. Offering music lessons, as well as after care and summer camp programs, Pee Wee Piano has become known in the community for it’s unique blend of music instruction and child care services.
Mrs. Goodwin obtained her bachelor’s degree from Howard University in 2007. She later went on to obtain a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University and is now a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor. In 2013, Rotoya was happily married to Bruce Goodwin Jr., her best friend of many years. When Rotoya has free time she enjoys reading, singing, writing, cooking, teaching and traveling. Rotoya also enjoys writing songs. She has enjoyed composing songs for the More Than A Dream Soundtrack.
In 2015, Mrs. Goodwin, founded Pee Wee Cares Inc. with the hopes of giving the gift of music to foster care children. Pee Wee Cares Inc., is a non-profit organization that provides free musical lessons and mentorship to foster care children. All proceeds from the More Than A Dream show will go towards supporting this vision.
Mrs. Goodwin states, “It has been an extreme pleasure and blessing working with the DREAM Team and the supporting Team Pee Wee staff on More Than A Dream! I am confident that this musical will change the lives of all those who take the time to watch.”
